I had some welcome company to get the first leg of my 2016 ride off to a good start. Scott Gurley gamely rode along on Takoda for the whole 26 miles from the beginning at the border by Campo, California, to our first night's campsite at Boulder Oaks. It was only his third time ever on a horse, so tackling 26 miles of hard trail riding was brave move (or then again, it was April Fool's Day!). We had a beautiful day to begin our ride, stopping for lunch and giving the horses a water break before climbing out of Hauser Canyon to Lake Morena. We arrived in Boulder Oaks where we had a celebration dinner of BBQ ribs to mark a happy start to this long road to Canada.
