Tax Day! But thankfully we had better things to do than think about what we might owe Uncle Sam . . .
In the morning, we started the trail again on the north side of the fire closure and headed down toward Highway 138 and the beginning of the Mojave desert below.
We were on our way to Hikertown, located right where the PCT crosses Highway 138. It's a fun and funky "old West" collection of buildings that provides a place for hikers and riders to temporarily call home as they rest and shower and catch up on e-mail, all generously provided by the owners, Richard and Roberta Skaggs. I stayed there in 2014 and met Bob, who is in charge of the day-to-day operation of Hikertown, but this time I also had the pleasure of meeting the Skaggs, who happened to be there for the weekend.
