Given how little trail maintenance I had experienced so far in Wyoming, I was eager to reach the Basin on this day and enjoy the obstacle-free miles of riding on dirt roads that made up the upcoming 200 miles. It was Takoda and I again tackling more downfalls in the morning before reaching our first road at around noon. From there we followed both paved and unpaved roads for 15 miles. There wasn't much to see other than the herds of pronghorn antelope that bounded away from us as quickly as they appeared on the horizon.
It was a hot and exposed day, with no shade for our final 15 miles. I didn’t do a very good job applying sunscreen that morning and I could feel the back of my neck and shoulders cooking in the afternoon sun. I started to day dream of aloe vera gel and ice cold strawberry lemonade. Lucky for me it was a relatively short day and I got to mom before 5pm (a new record I’m sure).
