Hyatt Lake

At Callahan's Lodge

Once again Shyla looked good in the morning--she is one tough horse, and nothing seems to affect her for very long. It's one of the things that makes her such a good long-distance horse; she is always eager for the next day's ride and seems to prefer to be moving. We left Callahan's and rode north towards Hyatt Lake, where I was hoping to stay in the horse campground. And we did . . . but not quite as I had anticipated. It turned out when I got there that the campground was closed for some reason (I didn't know it when I arrived, but realized the next morning). I was planning to come back the next night after we arrived at our truck and trailer, which was parked at the trailhead on Highway 140, but when I discovered that the campground was actually closed and I wouldn't be able to get back in with a vehicle, I reluctantly packed up all my gear, which would turn out to be a good thing.
