Continental Divide Trail

So, here we go! The horses and I loaded up into Bombshelter, one of our two truck and trailer rigs, and set out today for New Mexico, to begin our attempt at a Continental Divide Trail thru-ride. As you can see from the trail image etched in the stone above, we will be travelling through several states on our way north from the Mexican border to the Canadian border, from the deserts of New Mexico, to the Rockies in Colorado, to the grasslands of Wyoming and the rugged Glacier Park peaks in Montana.

I really don't know if anyone has ever done a thru-ride of the CDT (riding the complete length of the trail in one season), but we are going to try. I will use the same technique that I practiced on the PCT that allows me to cover all of the trail, just not in consecutive order, as I have to flip-flop around sections that are snowbound until they melt out and become clear. But if I just waited for the snow to disappear in the south before heading further northward, I would run out of time to complete the whole distance, so I will jump ahead to clear sections of trail and then return later to ride the sections at higher altitudes where the snow lingers later in the year. I hope you will follow along on my journey throughout the year and keep me company on the trail!
